It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Ah, my favorite time of year! Despite the business of the season, the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas are my favorite of the year. I love it all – the decorating, the activities, the gift giving, the eating….all of it! I think it’s safe to say that my kids are no less enamored!

We spent a little extra time getting our home ready this year since I needed to take so many indoor pictures for Made for Mermaids’ 12 Days of Christmas Freebies that started December 1st. I’m so excited to share a little bit of our home with you!

One of my favorite nights is the night we decorate our tree. I used to give the kids a box on Christmas Eve, with new Christmas books and/or movies, new pajamas, yummy snacks, and their ornament for the year. A few years ago, I decided it was more fun to give this box (sometimes bag) to them the night we decorate the tree. If we aren’t traveling for Thanksgiving, I like to put the tree up the day after! This year, we were out of town, so it went up the following weekend.

I made E’s pajamas this year (and a matching set for his Barnacle Buddy that I made for him last year), while Bee and two of her babies are wearing an adorable set from American Girl. They loved their new pjs, and their ornaments. We decorated the tree, and then settled in for a full night of movie watching and popcorn eating!

After the tree was decorated, I spent the next day decking the rest of the halls. I even swapped out our pictures this year! I’ve never done that before and I didn’t think I was that “extra”, but it looks so cute I might just do it every year now! Whoopsies! I left the regular pictures in the frame, and put the Christmas-y pictures or wall art in front, so it will be an easy change after Christmas.

How cute is the little chalkboard art above the kids’ play kitchen? I also hung up their gingerbread themed Annie Aprons, and set up their felt gingerbread Bake Set (two more freebie patterns!).

If you’ve met me in real life, you KNOW I have a pillow problem to put it lightly. I have an entire closet upstairs that’s filled to the brim with seasonal throw pillows. I cannot help it; they are my weakness. I loved creating this Pocket Pillow Pattern for Made for Mermaids, and got a little carried away with my embellishments! I love how cozy (….not crowded, hahaha!) it makes our downstairs look. My kids have been loving the little pockets, and each day I find new little treasures that they’ve stashed.

We also made use of the Fabric Garland, and last year’s freebie Tree Garland. You can see the trees hanging on the mantle, and the fabric ball garland is on the mantle and woven into the tree! I really should have ordered more ping pong balls for a bigger statement on the tree, but I’ll save that for next year. 🙂

Thanks for dropping in!

Be sure to check out Made for Mermaids and their freebie Christmas patterns; some of them (like the felt bake set) you could even modify to create them without sewing!
